Hey there, good people! I hope everyone’s doing well.
Apologies for the delay on the usual monthly blog update. The last day of July being a Monday inherently meant this one was gonna get pushed back a little bit, but Gen Con also being this past weekend didn’t help things either (recap from the Con coming next week). In any case, I’m here with a little July update for you all!
Emphasis on little, since I don’t actually think there’s much to talk about, aside from a few big projects and releases during the month.
Chief among these big new releases was my latest Blood Sisters story, “Vial.” Words can’t quite express how thrilled I was to finally share this one with you all; it was essentially several years in the making, ever since I dropped the original tale of Scars back in February 2020. Even though “Vial” essentially had a slow burn writing process, I was ultimately elated with how it turned out in the end. And based on the few people who have given me feedback, it seems to have been well-received, which I’m always glad to hear.
Be sure to check out “Vial” and the other two Blood Sisters stories if you haven’t already. As noted in my June recap blog, I’m currently planning to release the fourth story sometime before the end of the year, most likely around Christmas, so definitely stay tuned for that! And of course, I’ll be sure to share other small projects before then as they pop up.
On another “big release” note, the cinema event known as “Barbenheimer” hit theaters on July 21st, and it was obviously a massive success. While I haven’t seen Barbie yet, I did see Oppenheimer, and holy shit I love this movie. For exactly why that is, be sure to check out my review of the film, which dropped last week on Wednesday, August 2nd. But please, go see the movie first before reading the review—that’s a homework assignment for those of you who have slacking. Seriously, it’s probably the best film of the year so far, and I say that after having gushed over Across the Spider-Verse for weeks on end.
Other than that, not much else to share from July, aside from a handful of fun family gatherings throughout the month, including the Fourth of July, my niece’s baptism, and a late barbecue. That, and a lot of waiting for Gen Con, which, again, I’ll have more to share about soon. Otherwise, July was pretty smooth sailing. It left me feeling good about some future projects, but I’m definitely happy to be taking a bit of a break from the intense writing. I need some time to focus more on submitting pieces to magazines again, which I’ve been neglecting recently. That, and I’ve got a few older pieces I want to work on a for a bit while I also think up the plot for the fourth Blood Sisters story. So, you know, a break but not really a break.
In any case, I’ll be dropping a few more updates throughout the month of August, including my Gen Con 2023 recap and a review of the new TMNT movie, so stay tuned for those. Otherwise, stay chill, everyone! Peace!
